Chapter 36.11 (22), Wisconsin Statutes, requires that “any person employed at [the University] who witnesses a sexual assault on campus or receives a report from a student enrolled in the institution that the student has been sexually assaulted shall report to the dean of students of the institution. The dean of students shall compile reports for the purpose of disseminating statistical information.”
For the University to comply with this state law, all University employees are expected to report this information to the Dean of Students Office. The report does not have to include personally identifiable information.
In addition to this reporting requirement under state law, certain University employees have the obligation to report sexual assaults of which they become aware to the University’s Director of Clery Compliance and to the Title IX Coordinator.
Under the federal Clery Act, any employee who is designated a Campus Security Authority is required to submit a report regarding certain crimes of which they become aware, including sexual assault. For more information on whether you might be a Campus Security Authority and about the Clery Act, please visit the designated site maintained by the UW-Madison Police Department.
