Jack Talaska serves as UW-Madison’s HIPAA Privacy Officer. In his role, Jack works to ensure institutional compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) by assisting in the development of institution-wide HIPAA policies and serving as a general source of knowledge for HIPAA-related issues. Jack oversees the HIPAA Privacy compliance program and affiliated staff, leads the development and delivery of relevant training, monitors institutional risk, and communicates risk and remediation strategies to campus leadership. Prior to joining UW-Madison in April 2022, Jack served as Privacy Manager for a large hospital system based in New Orleans, LA. Before entering the field of health care privacy compliance, Jack spent several years as a felony public defender in Lafayette, LA.

A Wisconsinite, Jack received his B.A. in Political Science from UW-Milwaukee and his law degree from The George Washington University. He is certified in Healthcare Privacy Compliance (CHPC) through the Health Care Compliance Association.
