All employees in the UW Health Care Component (UW HCC)*
Protecting health information is an essential responsibility of every member of the UW HCC workforce. UW-Madison is committed to ensuring that the protected health information (PHI) of its patients and research subjects is continuously kept confidential and secure.
General Training Requirement
All members of the UW-Madison workforce in the UW Health Care Component (UW HCC)* must complete UW-Madison’s online HIPAA training prior to accessing protected health information and annually thereafter. See HIPAA Policy 9.1 for more information.
If you are a student in, employed by, volunteer with, or have a direct appointment with any of the following units, or are required to complete the UW training as a result of your affiliation with one of those units, you should submit a Registration Request so the appropriate Privacy Coordinator may register you for the training.
- UW School of Medicine and Public Health*
- School of Pharmacy*
- School of Nursing
- University Health Services
- State Laboratory of Hygiene
- Waisman Center*
- Athletics Department
*All members of SMPH, the School of Pharmacy, and the Waisman Center complete HIPAA training, even if not expressly included in the UW HCC.
