General training requirement

All members of the UW-Madison workforce in the UW Health Care Component (UW HCC)* must complete UW-Madison’s online HIPAA training prior to accessing protected health information and annually thereafter.  See HIPAA Policy 9.1 for more information.

Register for the Training

If you are a student in, employed by, volunteer with, or have a direct appointment with any of the following units,  or are required to complete the UW training as a result of your affiliation with one of those units, you should submit a Registration Request so the appropriate Privacy Coordinator may register you for the training.

  • UW School of Medicine and Public Health*
  • School of Pharmacy*
  • School of Nursing
  • University Health Services
  • State Laboratory of Hygiene
  • Waisman Center*
  • Athletics Department

*All members of SMPH, the School of Pharmacy, and the Waisman Center complete HIPAA training, even if not expressly included in the UW HCC.
