General Training Requirement
Protecting health information is an essential responsibility of every member of the “workforce” of the UW Health Care Component (UW HCC). UW-Madison is committed to ensuring that the protected health information (PHI) of its patients and research subjects is continuously kept confidential and secure.
To that end, HIPAA Training is required by all members of the UW HCC prior to accessing PHI and annually thereafter, and also annually by all members of the School of Medicine and Public Health, the School of Pharmacy, and the Waisman Center’s Highland Avenue facility even if they are not expressly included in the UW HCC.* See HIPAA Policy 9.1 for more information.
