Accessibility and disability inclusion are a shared responsibility between everyone at UW–Madison. Disability rights are civil rights. Everyone – from faculty and staff to managers and supervisors – must ensure no qualified disabled individual is denied the opportunity to access or benefit from the university’s programs, services, activities, and workspaces, including the use of digital tools and electronic resources. This collaborative university effort is in line with UW–Madison’s obligations under the Americans with Disabilities Act and other disability nondiscrimination laws.

Various resources offer information about designing accessibly and implementing reasonable accommodations. The resources below will help you do your part to create accessible programs, so disabled individuals can independently and more seamlessly access the university.

  • For managers and supervisors who oversee employees needing accommodations, or for employees seeking accommodations:
    • Employee Disability Resources Office:
      • Oversees and educates the university community about the ADA’s employment provisions, the Wisconsin Fair Employment Act, and the Pregnant Worker’s Fairness Act
      • Provides guidance and information on the reasonable accommodation process for employees, student-employees, and job-applicants with disabilities or pregnancy-related limitations, including lactation, to advance access and inclusion
      • Manages the Divisional Disability Representative program; the point of contact for employees, including student-employees, who need a job-related accommodation for a disability or pregnancy-related condition
      • Provides virtual and in-person training for managers and supervisors including an Introduction to Reasonable Accommodations Canvas module
